Coke Plant Pipeline Fire Claims Nine
10/09/2018 - Nine people were killed and 14 others were injured Tuesday morning after a gas line caught fire at the Steel Authority of India Ltd.'s Bhilai works.
In a statement, SAIL said the accident took place around 10:30 a.m. during a scheduled maintenance project at the No. 11 coke oven battery.
“All resources have been mobilized to provide adequate care to the injured,” the steelmaker said.
The PTI news service characterized the incident as an explosion and reported that most of the injured were in serious condition. They were being treated at a local hospital, PTI said.
