CMC Winds Up First Spool of Rebar
06/07/2018 - Commercial Metals Company’s new micro-mill in Oklahoma has begun producing spooled rebar, according to the plant’s technology supplier, Danieli.
In a statement, Danieli said the mill is using its K-Spool technology to produce hot-rolled, compact spools of rebar. Spools are available in weights of between 1.5 tons and 4.8 tons.
“These twist-free … easy-to-handle coils are (a preferred, value-added feedstock for) the downstream rebar fabricating industry,” the company said.
The Oklahoma mill is Commercial Metals’ second such Danieli micro-mill in the United States. Danieli’s micro-mill technology combines melting, casting and rolling into a single, continuous step, making finished product from an uninterrupted billet strand.
Commercial Metals opened its first micro-mill, located in Mesa, Ariz., in late 2009. It also is equipping that plant with rebar spooling capabilities.
