CMC Implements QMOS on South Carolina Rolling Mill

CMC-South Carolina recently became the third Commercial Metals Co. rolling mill to implement Quad InfoTech’s QMOS (Quad Mill Operation System).

CMC’s South Carolina plant first implemented the QMOS Roll Shop and Rolling Mill modules in May 2002. The scope of these modules was expanded in July 2008 to include the entire stand building and setup processes, as well as bundle-tag printing.

According to Quad, obstacles specific to this mill that were overcome included the possible utilization of up to three different bundle-tag printers at any time, and rather unique stand scheduling requirements necessary to accommodate the facility’s pass-change process.

The QMOS system offers a modular architecture that allows a user to choose from a wide variety of tools and functions such as sales order entry, rolling mill and meltshop scheduling, inventory management, shop management systems, full process monitoring and control, and more.

Toronto-based Quad InfoTech Inc specializes in the development of industrial MES systems as well as information visibility and awareness solutions. The company’s QMOS system has experienced increasing acceptance throughout the North American steel industry, with implementation in more than 25 steel mills. QMOS has become the MES standard for corporations such as Gerdau Ameristeel and CMC Steel.

CMC South Carolina, a highly productive rebar mills is also a world-class minimill producing a wide array of products including angles, flats, channels, squares, rounds and special shapes.
