Cleveland-Cliffs Reaches Tentative Labor Agreement With Minnesota Iron Ore Miners

According to Cleveland-Cliffs, the three-year agreement covers approximately 430 workers.

“The United Steelworkers (USW) have demonstrated their unwavering support of Cleveland-Cliffs throughout the years, and this new labor agreement for Northshore further strengthens our collaborative partnership. We look forward to working together with our new USW partners at Northshore and continuing to build a strong workforce for our present and future competitiveness,” said
Cleveland-Cliffs chairman and chief executive officer Lourenco Goncalves.

The contract follows a card check decision among Northshore workers to seek union representation.

“We chose to unionize so that we can have a voice on the job, especially when it comes to workplace health and safety, retirement security and other critical issues that affect us every day,” Jason Curtis, who works as a maintenance technician in the operation’s concentrator, said in a USW announcement.

“We’re proud of our work and of our part in the long legacy of responsible mining in Minnesota. Now we’re looking forward to making these jobs even better.”
