Cleveland-Cliffs Appoints New COO
12/12/2018 - Iron ore miner Cleveland-Cliffs Inc. has named executive vice president Clifford T. Smith as chief operating officer, the company has announced.
In a statement Tuesday, Cliffs said Smith will oversee operations, commercial sales and business development. He’ll take on his new role 1 January 2019.
"Cliff Smith has led several critical initiatives in support of our company’s successful turnaround and has made invaluable contributions to implement our growth plan. He is an accomplished global executive and a trusted leader,” said Cliffs chairman and chief executive Lourenco Goncalves.
Since joining Cliffs in 2003, Smith has held a number of executive and senior leadership roles. He holds a bachelor’s degree in mining engineering from the South Dakota School of Mines and Technology.
