Cleveland-Cliffs, USW Negotiate New Deal for Ohio Mill
04/16/2021 - Cleveland-Cliffs Inc. and unionized workers at its Mansfield, Ohio, plant have reached a tentative, four-year labor agreement, the steelmaker has announced.
Cliffs said the agreement, which covers approximately 300 members of the United Steelworkers union, will be retroactive to 1 April and run for 53 months.
Cliffs said the agreement provides for a competitive cost structure.
“As we have done in previous union contract negotiations, once again the Cliffs’ team was able to expeditiously get to a deal that is fair and equitable to both parties,” said Cliffs chairman and chief executive Lourenco Goncalves.
“Cleveland-Cliffs sees the USW as a very important partner with a lot more in common with our company than disagreements, and that’s why we can get deals done fairly quickly while others often struggle to find common ground with the union,” he said.
