Cleveland-Cliffs, Machinists Union Shake Hands on Labor Contract
04/26/2023 - Cleveland-Cliffs Inc. and union workers at its Middletown, Ohio, USA, mill have reached a tentative, four-year labor agreement, the steelmaker said Wednesday.
“The new labor agreement with our valued IAM (International Association of Machinists and Aerospace Workers) employees at Middletown represents another win-win for Cliffs and our union partners. We have a strong and loyal workforce as a result of these great relationships. Continued healthy partnerships like this one are the backbone of our future success, and we look forward to accomplishing our shared goals together,” said Cleveland-Cliffs chairman and chief executive Lourenco Goncalves.
The agreement with IAM Local 1943 covers approximately 2,100 hourly employees.
The union’s executive board is endorsing the tentative agreement, saying they believe it is fair and equitable and that it keeps wages “in line with the industry standard.”
A ratification vote has been scheduled for 4 May.
