Citing Section 232 Tariffs, U. S. Steel Says it Will Restart Another Idled Blast Furnace
06/05/2018 - United States Steel Corporation is planning to restart the second of two blast furnaces at its Granite City works in Illinois and rehire 300 people, the company announced on Tuesday.
“After careful consideration of market conditions and customer demand, including the impact of Section 232, the restart of the two blast furnaces at Granite City Works will allow us to serve our customers’ growing demand for high-quality products melted and poured in the United States,” said U. S. Steel chief executive David Burritt.
The company said it plans to have the A furnace back into production by sometime around 1 October. U. S. Steel in March said it would restart Granite City’s B furnace.
