Chung Joon-Yang Nominated as Posco CEO
02/16/2009 - Chung Joon-Yang will be officially appointed as Posco’s CEO on February 28 following the general meeting of shareholders and the board meeting.
Posco’s CEO recommendation committee recently named Chung Joon-Yang, President of Posco Engineering & Construction, as the sole candidate for CEO of Posco.
The committee, which was chaired by Professor Seo Yoon-seok and comprised eight non-standing directors, was formed immediately after the present CEO Lee announced his resignation. The committee evaluated candidates through four rounds of meetings, individual interviews and presentations, probing such qualifications as long-term corporate visions, strategies, global mindset and morality.
Chung will be officially appointed as new CEO on February 27th, after the general meeting of shareholders and the board meeting.
Chung, who majored in Industrial Education, graduated from Seoul National University and joined Posco in 1975. Since then, he has assumed major positions in the company, including General Manager of Steelmaking Department, General Manager of Production Technology Department, General Superintendent of Gwangyang Works and Chief Operating Office and Chief Technology Officer (President). He has also served as General Manager of the company’s EU office.
Chung is also a regular member of the IISI Technology subcommittee; Director of FKI (Federation of Korean Industries) Center for Large and Small Business Cooperation; Chairman of the Korea-Australia Business Council (KABC); and President of the Korean Institute of Metals and Materials (KIM).
