Chinese Strip Mill Enters Service
11/10/2020 - China’s HBIS Laoting Iron & Steel Co. Ltd. has successfully started up a new SMS group-built strip mill, according to the equipment supplier.
In a statement, SMS group said the 4.1-million-tons-per-year mill will produce low-alloy carbon steels, high-strength automotive grades, weather-resistant structural and container steels, pipe grades, boiler and pressure vessel steels, and steels for use in ship and bridge construction.
It can make sheet in widths of up to 1,900 mm and in thicknesses ranging from 1.2 mm and 25.4 mm.
SMS group said the mill consists of a roughing mill descaler, a slab-sizing press, a 2-high reversing roughing mill, a 4-high reversing roughing mill with attached edger, a mandrel-less coilbox and a crop shear. The finishing end includes a descaler, a 7-stand finishing mill and a laminar cooling system.
“The described system configuration provides HBIS Laoting maximum flexibility in planning and production,” SMS group said.
