Chinese Steel Production Proving Difficult to Curb
09/27/2016 - If China really intends to cut its excess steelmaking capacity, then the effort is off to a lousy start, reports the Bloomberg news service.
According to Bloomberg, rebounding steel prices have been too tempting for steel producers, who have restarted mills that otherwise would have been shut down. And as a result, China’s steel production, through the first eight months of the year, is down a mere 0.1 percent from the same period in 2015.
And, Bloomberg said, the country is on pace to achieve a near-record in terms of average monthly output.
