Chinese Province Hits Steel Capacity Reduction Target
11/21/2016 - The Chinese province of Hebei has eliminated 14.62 million metric tons of steel capacity, as of the end of October, according to the Reuters news agency.
Citing a report by Xinhua, China’s official news agency, Reuters said China’s largest steelmaking province reached the target ahead of schedule and exceeded expectations by about 400,000 metric tons.
Separately, the Bloomberg news service said that the government of Shijiazhuang, the province's capital city, is halting production at its steel and cement plants and throttling back production at other facilities for the remainder of the year to meet an emissions target.
The goal is to reduce fine particulate levels by 10 percent, Bloomberg reported.
