China Steel Starts Commercial Production of 980-MPa CR Steel Product
09/29/2009 - China Steel Co. in Taiwan has completed the development of the dual phase, cold rolled steel product with a tensile strength of 980 MPa, and already has started to supply this product to the market.
China Steel Co. in Taiwan has completed development of the dual phase (DP) cold-rolled (CR) steel product with a tensile strength of 980 MPa, and already has started to supply this product to the market.
The company says it is one of a few steel manufacturers around the world to produce the advanced high-strength steel (AHSS). China Steel has received some customer orders for the high-value-added product, which consists of a soft ferritic matrix containing some parts of the hard martensitic second phase.
Combining the good ductility of the ferrite and the high strength of the martensite, this product is especially suited for use in automobile structural parts, according to China Steel. The company says it has already supplied the AHSS product to its customer processing automobile parts, and the quality is satisfactory.
China Steel has so far supplied DP steel of 590 MPa and 780-MPa CR products in addition to 980 MPa to the automotive market, helping to support the trend toward lighter weight vehicles.
