China Steel Commissions Twin-Ladle Furnace from SMS Mevac
04/21/2014 - China Steel Corp. (CSC), located in Kaohsiung, Taiwan, has successfully commissioned a 270-ton twin-ladle furnace No. 3 supplied by SMS Mevac.
SMS Mevac’s scope comprised the engineering, the supply of the twin-ladle, including the entire material handling system, supervision of installation and commissioning as well as training.
This twin-ladle furnace with an annual capacity of 1.94 million tons was installed in the No. 2 BOF steelmaking plant. A special design feature is the dog house of the twin-ladle furnace, which minimizes the noise and dust in the furnace area.
The total capacity of BOF steelmaking plants Nos. 1 and 2 today amounts to some 10 million tons per year.
CSC now operates six RH plants and two ladle furnaces for liquid steel treatment. All units were supplied and/or revamped by SMS Mevac.
