China Pulls Further Ahead in Steel Production
06/11/2020 - The novel coronavirus pandemic is helping China widen its lead as the world’s largest steel producer, reports The (London) Financial Times.
According to The Times, Chinese crude steel production accounted for 62% of global output in April, up from its 54% share a year earlier.
“While steel mills fell quieter in Europe, the U.S. and India, Chinese producers kept running through its COVID-19 crisis and are producing at an even faster rate than they did last year, according to the World Steel Association’s preliminary data,” the newspaper said.
