China Loses Appeal On Trade Ruling
10/14/2015 - The World Trade Organization (WTO) has rejected China’s appeal on a ruling over its use of anti-dumping duties against Japanese- and EU-made high performance, seamless stainless tube.
Reuters said China imposed the anti-dumping duty in 2012, contending that Japanese and EU makers of the tubes, which are used in coal-fired power plants, were selling at unfairly low prices in China.
Consequently, Japanese and EU producers filed a complaint with the WTO ruling in their favor. China appealed that decision, but has lost. Reuters said that not only did the WTO’s appellate body reject the appeal, it bolstered the WTO’s initial ruling, reversing points where the panel had backed Beijing
Reuters said the original dispute was one of a series of often tit-for-tat trade complaints in which China and its richer trading rivals moved to protect domestic producers’ rights to take advantage of foreign markets. The rivalry was all the more heated by China's faster economic growth and its growing share of world exports, it said.
