China Exports to Latin America Continue To Increase
08/05/2015 - Finished steel imports from China to Latin America rose 10 percent between the first half of 2015 and the same period last year, according to Alacero, the Latin American Steel Association.
According to the association, Latin America received 4.4 million tons of finished steel from China in that time, with flat products accounting for about 2.6 million tons, or about 60 percent of the total. Long products accounted for 1.6 million tons, or 35.7 percent of China shipments. Seamless tube shipments represented 4.5 percent of the total, the association said.
The association said that Chinese shipments of finished steel have been increasing since the beginning of 2013, growing faster than world averages. As of the end of Q2 2015, Latin America-bound shipments have more than doubled to 110 percent, compared to 88 percent for the rest of the world, the according to the association.
At the same, average export prices are down by 30 percent, it said.
