China Ambassador Nominee Says He'd Work to Stop Steel Dumping
05/02/2017 - With compliments aplenty during his confirmation hearing on Tuesday, Iowa Gov. Terry Branstad is likely to be confirmed as the U.S. ambassador to China, according to reports.
According to The Des Moines (Iowa) Register newspaper, Branstad was questioned largely on what his priorities would be as ambassador, with a nary a question about his qualifications. And while he allowed that he has a lot to learn, he’s been diligent in studying current foreign policy, the newspaper reported.
Branstad at one point addressed China’s trade practices as they relate to steel, saying: “I want to do everything I can to make sure that we stop the unfair and illegal activities that we’ve seen from China in the steel industry,” according to the Reuters news service.
