Chilean Steelmaker Blames Chinese Imports for Production Stop
08/07/2024 - Compañía Siderúrgica Huachipato, Chile's largest steel plant, is "indefinitely suspending" production, saying that it is impossible to compete with dumped Chinese steel, according the AFP news service.
The decision came despite the imposition of temporary tariffs on Chinese imports, the news service said.
"Almost four months after the measure was implemented, market behavior has made it impossible to correct the imbalances and to transfer these tariffs to the price," the company said in a statement.
