According to the announcement, Fives will be installing the new furnace at CELSA’s plant in the French municipalities of Boucau and Tarnos while it modifies an existing Stein Digit@l Furnace® at CELSA’s Barcelona, Spain, facility. 

The French furnace is a walking beam unit that will serve a new rolling mill. The furnace is being set up to heat 120 metric tons’ worth of billets of varying lengths and cross-sections per hour.   

“The Stein Digit@l Furnace features the best available technology, including complete digital on/off control and heat curve control for optimum combustion, as well as AdvanTek® burners,” Fives said. 

Commissioning is set for this fall. 

Meanwhile in Spain, Fives is revamping the existing walking beam furnace so that it can process larger and heavier beam blanks, increasing its capacity from 7.5 metric tons to 10.5 metric tons. To that end, Fives is installing new roller tables as well as kick-in and kick-off machines on the charging and discharging side. Fives also is modifying the electrical equipment. 

The work is to take place this summer during a scheduled maintenance outage.
