CCR Technologies Inc. recently completed modernization of Nucor Steel Auburn’s continuous billet caster. CCR’s scope of supply comprised all equipment beyond the CCR straighteners.

The existing three-strand billet caster was modernized to provide additional metallurgical length and to facilitate casting 40 foot long billets. The casting machine cooling bed was installed in a newly constructed building, increasing the caster roller table by 80 feet. The new system is designed to allow all maintenance to be completed during casting of billets.

CCR was also recently awarded a contract to supply Gerdau Ameristeel Cambridge with an automatic billet weighting system. Designed for installation on the company’s existing three-strand billet caster, the new system will provide cut-to-weight control with accuracies within 1%.

The new system is scheduled to be commissioned by summer 2005.
