Casey Acquires Major
North American Bar and Rod Mills
May 4, 2004 — Casey Equipment recently completed the purchase of bar and rod mills from the former U. S. Steel facility in Lorain, Ohio, and the former Atlantic Steel facility in Atlanta, Ga.
Rated at 500,000 tons/year, the 12-inch Blaw-Knox 16-stand bar mill from the former USS Steel Plant features horizontal-vertical twist-free design and quick change roll cassettes. A double-sided cooling bed is included, as well as pouring reels. All equipment is still installed and scheduled for removal.
Rated at 14,000 feet/minute (70 meters/second), the 22-stand 1979-vintage Morgan bar/rod mill from the former Atlantic Steel Plant was previously removed from service and taken by the Canadian parent company, Ivaco, and put into storage for future installation. The mill includes a ten-stand rod block, 4-stand pre-finish block, CNC roll lathe, and newer vertical low-headroom mill stands.
Both packages of equipment are scheduled to be put into storage in Casey’s Youngstown, Ohio, warehouse.
