Canada to Keep Import Duties on Standard Pipe from China
08/20/2013 - After an expiry review of antidumping and countervailing duties on imports of carbon steel welded pipe from China, the Canadian International Trade Tribunal determined the imports were likely to result in injury to the Canadian market; therefore the duties will be maintained.
The Canadian International Trade Tribunal issued an order following the expiry review of its finding made on 20 August 2008 concerning the dumping and subsidizing of carbon steel welded pipe (standard pipe) from the People's Republic of China.
The Tribunal found that the dumping and subsidizing of carbon steel welded pipe from China were likely to result in injury to the Canadian market. The Canada Border Services Agency will therefore continue to impose antidumping and countervailing duties on this product.
The Tribunal is an independent quasi-judicial body that reports to Parliament through the Minister of Finance. It hears cases on dumped and subsidized imports, safeguard complaints, complaints about federal government procurement and appeals of customs and excise tax rulings. When requested by the federal government, the Tribunal also provides advice on other economic, trade and tariff matters.
