Calling All Decarbonization Start-Ups: ArcelorMittal Might Have Funding for You
05/27/2022 - ArcelorMittal’s XCarb Innovation Fund, which is looking to invest in commercially feasible technologies holding potential to decarbonize steelmaking, is soliciting proposals from start-up companies.
The company has issued a call for pitches as part of its Accelerator Program, which aims to connect innovators with funding and ArcelorMittal’s expertise.
"The need to reduce greenhouse gas emissions is one of the greatest investment requirements of our time. Steel can make a huge contribution to the decarbonization of the global economy, and at ArcelorMittal, we are committed to leading our industry’s efforts, and to accelerate the speed of our progress. Advancing the development of the technologies and processes which are pivotal to our industry’s transition is a very important element of this," said ArcelorMittal chief executive Aditya Mittal.
ArcelorMittal said the fund already has committed US$180 million to four companies working on renewable energy, long-term energy storage, carbon recycling and green hydrogen technologies.
