California Steel Plans Strip Mill, Galv Line Improvements
01/10/2019 - California Steel Industries Inc. has awarded a contract to Primetals Technologies for electrical and automation upgrades to its 86-inch hot-strip mill and its No. 2 continuous galvanizing line, the plant builder said on Thursday.
According to Primetals Technologies, the strip mill work includes a detailed migration plan for new motors, drives and power distribution for six finishing mill stands. Primetals Technologies will provide the engineering and supply medium-voltage motors, medium-voltage drives, transformers and switchgear. It also will oversee commissioning.
The project, which is to be completed in 2022, will allow the mill to expand its product mix, minimize delays and improve utilization rates.
Improvements to the No. 2 galvanizing line will entail installation of new AC and DC drives, level 1 and level 2 automation packages, and operator interfaces. Primetals Technologies also will provide the engineering and oversee commissioning.
That project is to be completed by mid-2020.
