Brickwork Expansion Prompts ArcelorMittal Coke Battery Rebuild
05/08/2019 - ArcelorMittal’s Burns Harbor plant in Indiana is undertaking a US$19 million rebuild of its No. 2 coke battery, the steelmaker has said.
In an announcement on its website, the company said the 45-year-old battery is in need of repair as the roof brickwork and tie rods have, in time, risen well above design elevation. The company said the work is to be completed during a five-year window, allowing the battery to remain in production and mitigating the need to purchase coke on the spot market.
The project is to be completed in 2022.
