Böhler Edelstahl Opens Facility with Largest Rotary Forging Machine

Böhler Edelstahl GmbH&CoKG completed in late September 2010 the largest investment project so far at the Kapfenberg site in Austria with the opening of the new ProForge hall. The company claims that the largest rotary forging machine in the world is housed in the production facility, providing a competitive advantage in quality, dimension, delivery time, and application areas.

The new forging shop—a result of the 130 million Euro “ProForge” investment package—enables Böhler Edelstahl to manufacture steel bars with a maximum length of up to 15 m, up to approximately 550 mm in diameter, and a piece weight of up to 8 tonnes. The core of the facility is the GFM rotary forging machine RF 100 with a maximum forging force of 2000 tonnes.

The investment also comprises, in addition to other equipment, a new straightening press, a peeling machine, a grinding machine, and an automated high-rack warehouse.
