BOF Hot Trials Commence at SAIL’s Burnpur Plant

This event marked the commencement of modern steelmaking in the IISCO Steel Plant (ISP). Under the expansion program of ISP, many major facilities including the 7-m tall coke oven battery, 2x204 m2 sinter plant, power and blowing station and 500,000-metric-ton wire rod mill have already commenced operations.

Verma applauded the ISP collective for the start-up and urged them to speed up the remaining work for integrated operations besides ramping up production from already operational units to meet growing steel demand.

The commencement of the BOF paves the way for starting up production from the new 4060 m3 blast furnace next month. With the operationalization of the new BF, integrated operations would start in the state of the art 2.5-million-metric-tons-per-annum steel plant constructed at an investment of around Rs. 17,000 crore.
