BlueScope Provides Update on Fire at Port Kembla Steelworks
10/15/2014 - BlueScope confirmed that the fire on Monday, 13 October 2014 at the Sinter Plant at the Port Kembla Steelworks has been fully extinguished.
The damage is being assessed and the steelworks continues to produce iron and steel.
The waste gas cleaning plant was shut down immediately due to the fire and plant recovery work has commenced.
The EPA is assessing a plan from the company for restarting the sinter plant.
The financial impact of the company’s restart plan is estimated to be of the order of US$10 million to US$12 million, primarily in the first half, of which approximately 50% is capital.
