BlueScope Executes On New Zealand EAF Project
09/11/2023 - The steelmaker announced that it has received board approval on a NZ$300 million (US$177 million) electric arc furnace (EAF) project at its New Zealand Steel works at Glenbrook, and that the project has moved into execution.
The EAF will help to reduce New Zealand Steel’s scope 1 and 2 greenhouse gas emissions by at least 45%, according to a company press release.
According to BlueScope, the New Zealand Government has agreed to co-fund the project to the tune of NZ$140 million (US$82.9 million).
The furnace is anticipated to be operational by 2026.
