Billions of Rupees Committed to a New Mill, Plans for Another Set Aside
08/26/2016 - India’s JSW Steel plans to commit the equivalent of US$7.5 billion to build a large steel works in the state of Odisha, reports the Business Standard newspaper.
According to the Business Standard, the facility is to open with 4 million metric tons of annual capacity, which eventually would be increased to 10 million metric tons. The state government is working with the company to identify a location, the newspaper said.
Meanwhile, Tata Steel has abandoned plans for a greenfield steelworks in the state of Chhattisgarh, the Business Standard reports.
The newspaper said that facility, first proposed in 2005, would have been able to produce 5.5 million metric tons annually. Tata scrapped its plans because of delays in land allocation from the state government, the newspaper said.
