Big River Disclosed Its First-Month's Production. It's A Lot.
02/09/2017 - Start-up Big River Steel produced 63,000 tons of hot-rolled coil in January, its first full month of production, the company has announced.
In a statement, Big River said January outut set a new record for first-month’s production, citing records maintained by SMS group, the mill’s primary equipment supplier.
“Starting up a mill such as Big River’s takes a team effort and all of us at Big River take pride in this accomplishment as we work to meet the demands of our customers,” said Dave Stickler, Big River Steel’s chief executive officer.
Big River shipped its first coil in December. Located Osceola, Ark., the facility has a capacity of 1.5 million tons annually. It employs SMS’ thin slab casting and rolling technologies and is designed to produce a wide range of hot strip dimensions.
