Berry Metal Announces New Product and Engineering Managers

Berry Metal Co. has recently hired Dale Straughen as its product manager-BOF/EAF steelmaking and Mike Bahorich as engineering manager.
Dale Straughen has a comprehensive background in steelmaking operations and previously was employed — for 30 years— with ArcelorMittal at the company’s East Chicago #4 and #2 steel producing facilities, respectively. Dale has held several positions including senior process engineer and section manager of steelmaking and has also led a number of quality and environmental improvement projects. At Berry Metal, Dale will handle technical issues and service our customers in North America and Canada with a primary focus in the Chicago area, as well as growing various segments of the business. He will be based in Lowell, Indiana and will routinely spend time at the company’s LaPorte, Indiana facility. Dale has a Bachelor’s of Science degree in Metallurgical Engineering from Michigan Technical University, a Masters in Management from Purdue University and is an active member in the AIST and technical committees.
Mike Bahorich has an extensive background in engineering. Most recently he was engineering manager at Calgon Carbon Corporation where he was responsible for over twenty direct reports consisting of control engineers, software engineers, mechanical engineers, electrical engineers, and designers. Mike led the engineering group in the design and implementation of all UV division products and customer projects where he had full responsibility for his department’s staffing, budgeting, scheduling, and technical leadership. He also interacted substantially with both the sales and production departments. Mike started his career at Allegheny Ludlum Steel Corporation and has had a few stints related to the steel industry along the way. He earned his Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering from Drexel University and his MBA from Waynesburg University.
