Belgium Mill Puts Systems Spray-Cooled Furnace Roof Into Service
06/28/2021 - ArcelorMittal's Industeel Charleroi mill in Belgium has commissioned a Systems Spray-Cooled-built EAF roof and elbow, the equipment manufacturer reports.
According Systems Spray-Cooled, the 2-point cantilever roof replaces a standard 4-point gantry pick roof. That and the installation of a complete handrail around the outside has significantly opened up access to the roof and delta area, allowing Industeel the ability to easily and safely change electrodes, deltas, and the elbow, Systems Spray-Cooled said.
“The new spray-cooled roof and elbow upgrade brings significant safety and maintenance improvements to Industeel,” the company said.
Project execution included a laser scan of the meltshop, basic and detailed engineering, design and supply of the roof and elbow, and design and supply of new 2-point pick gantry arms. In addition, Systems Spray-Cooled, working in partnership with tripleS GbR, modified the roof alloy chute.
The contract was awarded in September 2019, but the COVID-19 pandemic delayed commissioning until last fall.
