Baosteel Introduces Anti-Bacteria Stainless Steel Products

Baosteel has developed a new anti-bacterial stainless steel material that has demonstrated effective performance against a range of bacteria.

Under testing by an authoritative institution, tableware made from Baosteel’s new material performed well against such bacteria as colon bacillus, staphylococcus aureus, and more with a 24 hour bacteria-killing rate of greater than 99%. In addition, anti-bacterial performance did not deteriorate under long-time use. By comparison, common stainless steel materials, which have no anti-bacteria properties, are prone to harmful bacteria growth, which can negatively impact human health.

Anti-bacterial stainless steel products are made by adding anti-bacteria metal to common stainless steels and applying special process. Development of economical processes for production of such products has helped to gradually uplift living standards by enabling the ready availability and use of anti-bacterial products. In Europe, America and Japan, these types of materials are being applied in the tableware, cookware and home appliance industries. Baosteel noted, however, that to date, there have been broad applications of such materials in China.

In an effort to introduce such materials, Baosteel has recently demonstrated tableware made from its anti-bacterial steels to the Shanghai WorldExpo Bureau. During the WorldExpo period, honored guests from both home and abroad will have the opportunity to use tableware made of Baosteel’s "anti-bacteria gem" products.
