According to the equipment supplier, Primetals Technologies provided the design and engineering for the new cooling line equipment and supplied the laminar cooling header, swiveling unit, cross spray, overhead tank and steel structure. Primetals Technologies also supervised installation, commissioning and operator training. Due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, much of the project was executed remotely. Despite this setback, however, all equipment was delivered on time and the hot strip mill restart date began 48 hours earlier than scheduled, Primetals Technologies said.
 
The new laminar cooling section will allow Baosteel to produce low-temperature, high-toughness line pipe steels up to 19 mm in thickness and dual- and multi-phase steels from 2 to 8 mm in thickness, Primetals Technologies said.
