Axis Pipe and Tube Breaks Ground for Texas Facility
08/22/2013 - On 22 August 2013, officials of Axis Pipe and Tube, Inc., The Prolamsa Group and state and local officials participated in groundbreaking ceremonies in Bryan, Texas, for a new US$150 million pipe and tube facility.
The company will invest in excess of US$150 million in this new state-of-the-art facility.
The plant is expected to employ more than 285 people at full capacity and is scheduled to begin production by mid-2014 and will produce more than 300,000 tons-a-year of energy-related tubular products aimed at meeting the growing demand of the U.S. oil and natural gas industries.
The facility will operate as Axis Pipe and Tube, Inc., a division of The Prolamsa Group.
Company officials were quick to praise the Bryan area. "We are pleased to become a part of the Bryan community. We looked at a number of possible locations throughout the southeastern and southwestern United States for a plant site. Bryan offers a unique combination of factors that includes a technically oriented work force, close proximity to customers and suppliers, and a business-friendly environment.
“From Bryan we have easy access to the highways and the rail system, allowing for quick, efficient delivery to our customers, many of whom are located right here in the heart of one of the main markets for the oil and gas industry."
Company officials thanked state and local public officials for their help and support for this project. A company spokesman said, "The support we've received from the state of Texas, Brazos County and the City of Bryan, has allowed this project to move forward quickly. With the groundbreaking today, we're on schedule to complete construction on the major buildings by the end of the fourth quarter and to begin operation in mid-2014."
The new 183-acre facility will produce ERW energy tubular products in diameters up to 16", with wall thicknesses up to .625". The plant will be fully integrated with a slitting line, mill, finishing floor and heat treatment facilities, and will have the capability to produce a wide range of API grades.
Axis Pipe and Tube has formed a commercial partnership with Tubular Synergy Group (TSG) to manage sales for new products. TSG is a sales, marketing and supply chain services provider of oil country tubular goods and line pipe.
