Automaker Picks ArcelorMittal for New Supplier Program
05/27/2016 - A German automaker has chosen ArcelorMittal to participate in a new vehicle-development program designed to quicken innovation and to help it meet the needs of a global market.
The automaker, Volkswagen, said it selected the suppliers for its Future Automotive Supply Tracks program based on standardized and objective criteria. It also based the decision on how well a supplier has collaborated with the company in the past, it said.
Axel Müller, Volkswagen’s metals purchasing group manager, said ArcelorMittal is a “reliable partner” whose contributions, such as its hot-stamping technology, have helped the company achieve weight targets.
“I expect that ArcelorMittal’s involvement … will enable us to intensify this cooperation,” he said.
Jochen Gruenewald, ArcelorMittal’s automotive area manager, said that his company’s inclusion in the program is an important step forward in its automotive research program.
“We will be able to tune our product development cycle with VW’s milestones for new vehicle development,” he said.
