August Steel Shipments Up 5.7% from July
10/16/2009 - U.S. steel mills shipped 5,570,000 net tons for the month of August 2009, a 5.7% increase from July according to the latest report from AISI.
U.S. steel mills shipped 5,570,000 net tons for the month of August 2009, according to the latest report from the American Iron and Steel Institute (AISI).
The August total represents a 5.7% increase from the 5,271,000 net tons shipped in the previous month, July 2009, and a 37.1% decrease from the 8,860,000 net tons shipped in August 2008.
A month-to-month comparison of shipments shows the following changes:
- Hot dipped galvanized sheet and strip, + 2.8%
- Hot rolled sheet, + 6.8%
- Cold rolled sheet, + 9.9%
AISI serves as the voice of the North American steel industry in the public policy arena and advances the case for steel in the marketplace as the preferred material of choice.
