ATI Allegheny Ludlum Selects Broner Scheduling Solution for New Brackenridge Plant
12/05/2012 - Broner has been selected by ATI Allegheny Ludlum to implement a new scheduling project to assist with their specialty metals hot rolling and processing facility (HRPF) in Brackenridge, Pa.
Broner has been selected by ATI Allegheny Ludlum to implement a new scheduling project to assist with their specialty metals hot rolling and processing facility (HRPF) in Brackenridge, Pa.
The new scheduling system will balance the supply of slabs and ingots from multiple ATI melt shops with the rolling sequence required at the mill. The mill contains little space to store slabs so the scheduling system will also provide rail schedules so that slabs can be charged directly from the rail wagons to the mill furnaces. The mill itself will process multiple routes, including ingot conditioning, breakdown rolling, thermal treatments and conventional strip rolling – each of which will require scheduling.
Broner will also supply medium to long range capacity planning functions together with order promising capability to help match incoming product mix with the mill's complex constraints.
The solution provided by Broner will be based around Broner Production Planner , Production Scheduler, Material Planner and Broner Capability to Promise modules, together with new rail scheduling to prepare schedules for transfer of slabs from melt facilities to the HRPF complex, and coils from the HRPF complex to outbound locations.
The new scheduling system will be integrated with ATI mainframe systems.
Darin Sarin, HRPF Project Executive, said "We selected Broner due to their in depth knowledge, insights and solutions needed to support our new mill. The performance of the new plant will required efficient and reliable coordination of multiple logistics and production facilities, so we wanted a vendor we could trust to provide the beating heart of our new plant."
