ATI’s Kittenbrink to Lead Specialty Steel Industry Association

April 2, 2007 — The Specialty Steel Industry of North America (SSINA) has named Douglas A. Kittenbrink of Allegheny Technologies Inc. (ATI) as Chairman. Mr. Kittenbrink succeeds SSINA’s current chairman, Dr. Jack W. Shilling, who will retire from ATI on March 31, 2007.

Carpenter Technology Corp.’s Dr. Sunil Widge will become SSINA's Vice Chairman. Together, Mr. Kittenbrink and Dr. Widge bring more than 50 years of combined specialty metals industry experience to SSINA.

As Executive Vice President, Corporate Planning and International Business Development, Kittenbrink leads ATI's commercial activities in Asia and Europe. Also reporting to him are ATI's joint ventures STAL (Precision Rolled Strip(R) products) and Uniti Titanium (industrial titanium products). Mr. Kittenbrink also leads the company's relationship with the USW, has involvement with the ATI Business System, and has direct input into ATI's capital projects.

Previously, Kittenbrink served as Executive Vice President of ATI Business System, and Group President of the Engineered Products Segment, and Chief Operating Officer of Allegheny Technologies. He joined Allegheny Technologies in 1992 as Vice President of Engineering for Allegheny Ludlum and has been given increasing levels of responsibility during his career.

Mr. Kittenbrink is a member of the Board of Directors of Uniti Titanium, a joint venture between Allegheny Technologies and VSMPO-AVISMA. He is also a member of the Board of Directors of STAL, a joint venture between Allegheny Technologies and Bao Steel, which manufactures and markets Precision Rolled Strip products. He is a past member of the Board of Directors of the former Association of Iron and Steel Engineers, where he served as Chairman of the Project Management Division in 1995. He is a 1977 graduate of Cornell University with a degree in Mechanical Engineering and graduated from the University of Chicago with an MBA in 1982.

Dr. Widge is Carpenter Technology’s Vice President of Business Development and Chief Technology Officer for Specialty Alloys Operations, a position he has held since October 2005. He began his career at Carpenter Technology in 1976 as an Assistant Metallurgist, later leading various departments within Carpenter, including R&D, Technology and Quality, and Forge Bar and Billet business.

He received his BS in Metallurgy from the College of Engineering in Poona, India, and his MS and PhD in Metallurgy and Material Science from Lehigh University. In 1983, Dr. Widge received his MBA from the Wharton School of Business, University of Pennsylvania.

Dr. Widge has served as Chairman of the American Society for Metals, The Metallurgy Society-High Temp Alloys, and President of the Specialty Materials Processing Consortium. He holds five US patents and is on the MSE Advisory Committee at Lehigh University and on the Board of Trustees at Alvernia College.
