At 2019's Midpoint, the World's Crude Steel Production Is Up. Here’s How Much.
07/30/2019 - With Asia leading the way, global crude steel production rose 4.9% through the first half of 2019, according to new numbers from the World Steel Association.
According to the association’s monthly production statistics, global output at the midpoint of the year climbed to 925.1 million metric tons. For comparison, production stood at about 882 million metric tons in the first half of 2018.
Asia led production, which rose 7.4% over the same period last year to 660.2 million metric tons. In that time, China’s production rose 9.9% to 447.8 million metric tons.
Meanwhile, North American production climbed 1.4% to 60.1 million metric tons. However, U.S. production grew 5.4% to 42.1 million metric tons.
Meanwhile, production in the European Union fell 2.5% to 84.7 million metric tons.
