ArcelorMittal’s Juiz de Fora Facility Earns Environmental Management Award

ArcelorMittal Juiz de Fora, in Brazil, recently received the 'Mineiro' Award for Environmental Management (Prêmio Mineiro de Gestão Ambiental).
 
The award was given in recognition of the excellence of environmental management at the Juiz de Fora unit. The facility recirculates 99% of the water used in its industrial processes, uses charcoal—a sustainable energy source—for pig iron production, and undertakes a number of valued social and environmental projects within the local community.
 
Minas Gerais State Governor Aécio Neves presented the award The ceremony took place during the opening of the conference Diálogos da Terra no Planeta Água (Dialogues from the Earth on the Water Planet) in the presence of an audience of 1500 guests. The conference was held in Belo Horizonte.
 
The award was accepted on behalf of ArcelorMittal’s Juiz de Fora facility by the CEO Long Carbon South and Central America, Paulo Geraldo de Sousa, as well as the facility’s Industrial Director, Gérson Menezes, and to the General Unit Manager, Tarcísio Bomtempo Martins.
 
This is the third time the award has been presented, and the second time that ArcelorMittal has been honored. ArcelorMittal’s Monlevade facility received the award in 2006.
