ArcelorMittal Workers in Canada Accept New Labor Deal
02/17/2016 - Unionized steelworkers at ArcelorMittal's Canadian long products division have ratified a six-year labor agreement, the company has announced.
The new contracts cover approximately 800 operations, maintenance and office employees at the Contrecoeur East steel works and bar mill in the province of Quebec and operations and maintenance employees at the Longueuil bar mill, also in Quebec.
The agreement is retroactive to 1 February.
In a statement, ArcelorMittal said it is pleased that union members accepted the deal. It said the deal is fair to employees but also will help keep the company competitive in a time of persistently low prices.
According to the United Steelworkers union, more than 90 percent of the ballots cast were in support of the new agreements.
