ArcelorMittal Updates Spanish Lines with ISRA VISION PARSYTEC Surface Inspection Technology
07/24/2014 - Two lines in ArcelorMittal's facility in Avilés, Spain, were recently equipped with the latest technology from ISRA VISION PARSYTEC, a leading provider of surface inspection systems for the metal industry.
The integration of new, highly developed components improves the inspection performance of the installed ISRA PARSYTEC systems once more. The upgrade ensures competitiveness and future security for ArcelorMittal. In Avilés, the steel giant company produces about 400,000 tons of material per year, mainly surface finished products.
ISRA VISION PARSYTEC implemented an innovative optical inspection system with high resolution on the hot dip galvanization line. The technological innovation was designed, implemented and developed in close collaboration with the customer, integrating the outcomes of an Avilés internal research project. It offers a reliable solution for detecting tiny zinc residues. The particles with a size of clearly under 1 mm may occur on the entire surface after galvanizing and can be identified at 100% with the cutting-edge channel. This enables ArcelorMittal to supply galvanized coils and sheets of perfect quality to important customers in the automotive industry.
On the hot rolling line, ArcelorMittal now performs inspections using the latest generation LED technology. The powerful lighting, which is ideal for all conditions, was specially designed for this application by ISRA VISION PARSYTEC. This results in significantly improved high quality defect images as a base for better detection and a quality increase of the coils processed in ArcelorMittal's own cold rolling mill.
Furthermore ArcelorMittal and ISRA VISION PARSYTEC announced the launch of a joint research project for improved detection of very low contrast and periodic defects. Both companies are going to bundle their expertise in order to observe and analyze the new installation on the hot rolling line. The findings made in close cooperation will be directly used for the development of the next product generation.
