03/10/2022 - The Brazilian mill has been recognized by global standards initiative ResponsibleSteel for its environmental, social and governance (ESG) performance, the steelmaker said.
According to an official press release, ArcelorMittal said the ResponsibleSteel audit process considers a company’s performance in 12 critical ESG areas, including decarbonization and sustainability, human and labor rights, health and safety, and community relations. Tubarão is the fifth ArcelorMittal facility worldwide and its first outside of Europe to receive ResponsibleSteel certification.
Jorge Oliveira, chief executive officer of ArcelorMittal South America, said, “Our search is constant for a more sustainable process, from the supply of raw materials to the sale of solutions to our customers. With the certification, we want our customers in the industry and society to be sure that our steel is produced responsibly at all stages.”
