In a statement, ArcelorMittal said its cryogenic CryElso 9Q 9% nickel plates will be used in the liquid-gas storage tanks at Shell's Appalachian ethane cracker plant, now under construction in southwestern Pennsylvania. 

The cracker plant will convert ethane derived from regional natural gas fields into polyethylene. Polyethylene is a plastic used to make a wide variety of products, including food packaging, sports equipment, furniture and automotive components. 

The plates are being produced at ArcelorMittal subsidiary Industeel Creusot in France. 

“Industeel is one of the top 9% Ni producers in the world. Our cryogenic steel range is successfully meeting the demanding technological specifications,” said Jean-Christophe Milek, sales and marketing manager at Industeel.
