ArcelorMittal to Build €300 Million Electrical Steel Unit in France
03/17/2022 - Today ArcelorMittal announced plans for a new production unit at its Mardyck, France, operations dedicated to producing steels for the growing electric vehicle market.
According to a company press release, the €300 million production line will be capable of rolling 200,000 metric tons per year of high-strength electrical steels in thicknesses between 0.2 and 0.35 mm. The steels will primarily be used in the production of electric and hybrid vehicle engines.
ArcelorMittal said the project has received the support of the French government.
“With this new production unit, ArcelorMittal will be able to support its customers in their developments, and support the development of electromobility,” said Eric Niedziela, chairman of ArcelorMittal France and vice president climate action for ArcelorMittal Europe. “Keeping the capacity to produce the steels of the future in Europe and in France is an essential part of our economic sovereignty, and I am pleased that the French government is supporting us in this investment through France Relance.”
