ArcelorMittal Spain Recognized for Research and Development Collaboration
02/26/2014 - ArcelorMittal Spain was recently awarded the University-Company Partnership Award from a local university.
ArcelorMittal Spain has been awarded the ‘University-Company partnership award’ by the Social Council of the University of La Rioja (Spain) in recognition of the successful collaboration maintained over the last few years between the university and ArcelorMittal’s Global R&D center in Asturias (Avilés).
From 2007 to 2012, ArcelorMittal’s Global R&D centre in Asturias and the EDMANS (engineering data mining and numerical simulation) team of the university’s mechanical engineering department signed a total of six research contracts. The partnership has led to the publication of a number of scientific articles, a doctoral thesis, and the hiring of a researcher at the university.
The projects carried out jointly are mainly focussed on process simulation and modelling techniques applied to various areas including the rail rolling process, the molten-zinc bath in galvanising lines, improvements in the quality of steel slabs, blast furnace operation control, and process and quality improvements in the production of steel sections.
ArcelorMittal received the prize in the ‘University-Company partnership’ category, an award granted to companies and organisations that demonstrate outstanding and continuous collaboration in their area of expertise with researchers or R&D teams at the University of La Rioja. In this way, the Social Council aims to enhance relations between the university and the business community.
