ArcelorMittal Reveals Excellence Award Winners
08/04/2010 - ArcelorMittal has announced the winners of its annual Performance Excellence Awards for the 2009 financial year. Encompassing six categories, the awards were established in 2007 to celebrate excellence and innovation across the ArcelorMittal Group.
ArcelorMittal has announced the winners of its annual Performance Excellence Awards (PEAs) for the 2009 financial year. Encompassing six categories, the awards were established in 2007 to celebrate excellence and innovation across the ArcelorMittal Group.
"In order to ensure ArcelorMittal's ongoing status as a world-leading company, it is essential that we continue to share best practice across the network and champion innovation throughout our global operations,” said Lakshmi N Mittal, Chairman and Chief Executive Officer. “The Performance Excellence Awards are a vital tool in achieving this aim, ensuring recognition for the many exciting projects going on around the business."
And the winners are:
- Customer Satisfaction—ArcelorMittal Commercial Rails, Piles and Special Sections, recognized for its sheet piles made in Luxembourg that help to protect Venice from the threat of flooding.
- Environment & Corporate Responsibility—ArcelorMittal Cariacica (Brazil) was selected for its Digna Indade ("Growing old with dignity") initiative, aimed at improving quality of life for disadvantaged senior citizens.
- Health & Safety—ArcelorMittal's Saldanha plant (South Africa) received this award following the completion of a major blast furnace reline project involving some 4000 employees. The operation was completed without a single accident.
- Innovation & Leadership—ArcelorMittal Dofasco (Canada) was selected the winner for its pioneering work in the field of low-carbon steel production.
- Margin Generation—ArcelorMittal Flat Carbon South America (Brazil) succeeded in rapidly growing sales of flat-rolled steel into distribution by leveraging its existing network of long-product warehouses.
- Operational Excellence—ArcelorMittal Tubarão (Brazil) was chosen after achieving 30 years of continuous operation and 100 million tonnes of hot metal production, without a reline, from a blast furnace that was commissioned in 1983 with a projected life expectancy of 15 years.
